Who We Are

Seeds Are Planted...

The Hope Center began as a vision inspired by Pastor Jack Hempfling of Living Waters Church. Driven by a deep desire to see individuals, men, women, and children, fulfill their God-given potential, Pastor Jack laid the foundation for programs that would bring hope to those facing life’s challenges. As a respected community leader, he imagined a ministry that extended beyond the walls of any single church, one rooted in faith and love, dedicated to serving the wider community and region.

In 2016, that vision took form with the founding of the Hope Center of LeRoy, established as a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) faith-based organization governed by its own Board of Directors. Rev. Henry Moore and his wife, Valerie, were soon recognized for their deep passion for outreach and community service. When Rev. Moore was appointed as Director of the Hope Center, the couple served side by side, launching a variety of impactful programs designed to meet local needs and embody the mission of hope in action.

Weathering The Storm...

In early 2020, as the world came to a standstill, so too did the daily rhythms of life in our community. The Hope Center of LeRoy was still a relatively young organization at the time, but it had already earned the respect and trust of those it served. Amid the uncertainty and disruption, one program in particular became a lifeline: Fresh Start, our established tutoring initiative. Over the next two years, the Hope Center provided free tutoring to dozens of students and adult learners, helping them navigate the challenges of remote education and academic setbacks. While many of our in-person programs were paused or scaled back, Fresh Start not only supported those in need. It also gave the Hope Center a renewed sense of purpose and the strength to persevere.

Cultivating Hope...

Diane Sia joined the Hope Center as Director in mid-July 2022, bringing with her valuable experience from her previous role as Development Director at Crossroads House. From the start, Diane focused on revitalizing the Hope Center, assembling a dedicated staff with a shared passion for service and establishing a strong, committed volunteer base. Under her leadership, community partnerships were strengthened, and new relationships with local businesses flourished.

Diane also revitalized several key programs. She enhanced the Fresh Start tutoring initiative, expanding its reach and impact, and reignited the Alzheimer’s Respite Program, offering essential support to caregivers of those living with Alzheimer’s. Additionally, she reintroduced the Ladies Crafting Group, which became a meaningful source of social connection, friendship, and creativity through monthly gatherings.

During a period of transition and uncertainty, Diane played a pivotal role in reorganizing and reenergizing the Hope Center, helping it regain its footing and continue its mission of hope and service in the community.

Hope Grows Here...

A new chapter for the Hope Center begins in June 2025 with the appointment of our new Director, Gina Lathan. Gina brings extensive experience in marketing, project management, product development, sales, and building strong business-to-business relationships. Her professional expertise is complemented by a deep dedication to community service, making her an ideal leader for this exciting new season.

This next chapter promises to be one of growth, expanded outreach, and life-changing opportunities. As we broaden our services beyond LeRoy, we will be introducing a soft rebranding to better reflect our growing impact throughout Genesee and surrounding counties. Our outreach efforts will focus on meeting people where they are, especially those in need of hope and support for a better tomorrow.

New workshops and classes will foster connection, community, wellness, and personal growth. Hope Center events will be intentionally designed to be community-centered and meaningful.

We are also proud to unveil our updated logo, which reflects our guiding motto: Hope Grows Here.

Our vision is simple yet powerful: that every person who walks through our doors feels seen, supported, and valued. As we move forward, we are committed to deepening partnerships with local businesses and organizations, while continuing to grow our incredible base of volunteers who make our mission possible.
